Clockify Desktop Application
Clockify Desktop is the locally installed companion app that provides time-tracking capabilities outside the browser. It runs quietly in the background, manages timer states, and synchronizes your entries with your Clockify workspace, enabling cross-device reporting and offline draft storage when possible.
Clockify.Desktop.exe is based on an Electron framework, launches a background process to handle timers, and communicates with Clockify's REST API over HTTPS. It stores cache data in the user's AppData directory and updates the UI via inter-process communication.
Clockify Desktop is the official client from Clockify and is considered safe when downloaded from clockify.me or the official app store. It runs with standard user permissions, uses TLS for server communication, and stores local cache in the user's profile. Always keep the software updated and use a reputable antivirus to verify integrity.
Under normal conditions, Clockify Desktop is not a virus. However, legitimate software can be misidentified by some security products if it is modified or installed from an untrusted source. If you notice unexpected copies, unusual paths, or failing signature checks, verify the application’s origin and scan the file with a reputable antivirus. Use official installers to minimize risk.
Red Flags: If the executable is found in unusual folders, lacks a valid digital signature, shows multiple unsigned copies, or requests excessive permissions, treat as suspicious and isolate from the network until verified.
