BrScanner Enterprise Scanner Service
brscanner-exe is the Windows executable that drives BrScanner's scanning engine, coordinating inventory collection and vulnerability checks across local devices and remote targets. It runs as a background process, integrates with the BrScanner client, and schedules or executes scans per configured policies, reporting results to the BrScanner backend.
brscanner-exe coordinates modular scanner plugins, manages the scan queue, and communicates with the core BrScanner engine through local inter-process channels. It reads settings from BrScanner configuration and writes results to the BrScanner database or log files for reporting.
brscanner-exe is safe when obtained from BrScanner, LLC’s official channels and runs as a signed, trusted component of the BrScanner product. It adheres to normal security models for background services, uses service accounts with the least privilege, and communicates with BrScanner endpoints over secured channels. When properly installed, it does not execute in user context by default and will not delete unrelated files or exfiltrate data. Always verify publisher, path, and digital signature before execution and keep software up to date.
While brscanner-exe is a legitimate BrScanner component, malware may impersonate it. If you did not install BrScanner or the file lacks a valid signature, treat it as potential malware. Verify publisher, file path, and digital signature; check the certificate issuer; and compare hashes against the distribution you received from BrScanner. If in doubt, perform a full system scan and contact BrScanner support for validation.
Red Flags: Brscanner-exe that is unsigned, located in user-writable folders (Temp, AppData), or exhibits network activity from unexpected tunnels should raise suspicion. Unexpected permissions, repeated self-install prompts, or mismatched digital signatures are also warning signs.
