Box Sync Service
BoxSyncService-exe is the background Windows service for Box Sync. It monitors your local Box Sync folder, detects file changes, and coordinates uploads to Box cloud storage while downloading updates from Box. It runs continuously to keep files in sync across devices, even when you're offline.
BoxSyncService.exe runs as a Windows service under the Box Sync client. It watches the designated Box Sync folder (for example, C:\Users\You\Box) for changes, uses the Box API to enqueue transfers, and coordinates metadata and versioning with the cloud.
BoxSyncService-exe is the legitimate background service for the Box Sync client provided by Box, Inc. When installed from Box’s official site, it runs as a digitally signed system service that starts with Windows or on user login. It only accesses your Box Cloud storage folders and the local Box Sync directory, performing transfers, conflict resolution, and metadata synchronization. If you obtained Box Sync from Box’s verified installers, you can trust BoxSyncService.exe to operate securely and in isolation from other applications.
BoxSyncService.exe can only be trusted if it comes from Box, Inc. and is signed by Box’s digital certificate. If the binary is missing its Box signature, located outside the Box installation path, or you did not install Box Sync from Box’s official site, this executable could be masquerading as a legitimate process. In that case, treat it as suspicious and scan with your antivirus, while verifying the installer source and digital signature.
Red Flags: If BoxSyncService.exe is missing the Box signature, located in a temp or user-writable directory, or has a mismatched file size/timestamp, stop the service and reinstall Box Sync from Box's official installer.
