ASUS Armoury Crate Agent
ArmouryCrateAgent.exe is the background service that powers the Armoury Crate experience on compatible ASUS systems. It coordinates device profiles, lighting effects, cooling/power presets, and firmware checks. The agent runs under your user context and can start with Windows, applying settings across supported hardware so keyboards, chassis, and peripherals behave as configured in the Armoury Crate interface.
It implements the client-side logic that applies profiles, pushes RGB commands, reads sensor data, and communicates with ArmouryCrateService to synchronize settings with ASUS servers.
ArmouryCrateAgent.exe is a legitimate ASUS component designed to run Armoury Crate features such as device configuration, lighting control, and firmware checks. It is digitally signed by ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. and integrates with other Armoury Crate services. When installed from official ASUS sources, it operates within expected system permissions and does not modify unrelated system files without user interaction. If you notice unusual behavior, verify the path, check the digital signature, and compare the installed version to official release notes to confirm legitimacy.
ArmouryCrateAgent.exe is not a virus when sourced from ASUS's official Armoury Crate installation. Corrupted, renamed, or spoofed executables with the same name may appear as malware; therefore, always confirm the file path, publisher, digital signature, and hash. If Armoury Crate is removed or replaced by third-party software, this component could be flagged. In legitimate contexts, it runs as expected and is trusted by the system.
Red Flags: If ArmouryCrateAgent.exe is located outside the ArmouryCrate install folder, shows a mismatched publisher, or prompts for elevated rights without Armoury Crate UI, treat as suspicious.
Reasons it's running:
It is ASUS Armoury Crate's background agent that applies hardware profiles, RGB lighting, and firmware updates to connected devices.
Most features depend on the agent; you can disable it but some functionality like lighting and device profiles will be limited.
Verify the file path under Program Files, digital signature by ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC., and compare the hash with the official installer.
If it runs with many modules or conflicts with other software, it can consume CPU; updating to the latest version or limiting startup can help.
Uninstall Armour Crate will remove its drivers and profiles; you may need to reinstall if you want Armoury control later.
Disable via Task Manager > Startup, stop and disable ArmouryCrateService, or remove ArmouryCrate from startup programs.
